How does a manifold pressure sensor work?
The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is a key sensor because it senses engine load. The sensor generates a signal that is proportional to the amount of vacuum in the intake manifold. The engine computer then uses this information to adjust ignition timing and fuel enrichment.
How do you know when the map sensor is broken?
Poor fuel economy. If the ECM reads low vacuum or no vacuum, it assumes that the engine is under high load, so it will exhaust more fuel and advance ignition timing
Lack of motivation
Emission test failed.
Rough idle.
Difficult to start.
To hesitate or delay.
Check the engine lights.
